Technology #1: Cryolipolysis
Cryolipolysis (or ‘lysis’) is the process of freezing fats or ‘lipos through cryo. Fat is more vulnerable to freezing than surrounding tissue. Cryolipolysis allows fat cells to be made to die without any effect on nearby structures.
Is it effective?
According to small-scale research, the science of this science has shown that it can decrease fat around the love handles or flanks by around 22.4%. That is not too bad! It is also approved by the US FDA. However, there haven’t been enough studies and the effects of the fat on other parts of the body are still being studied.
What are the side effects?
Unfortunately, discomfort can result from this technology. Redness can last for several hours and there may be some localised bleeding. People also experience local numbness. Some people feel the sensation return after a few months. A few cases have shown severe shooting or jabbing pains from cryolipolysis. You should be aware of those risks before considering this therapy. Find out if tummy tuck can help you get firmer abs.
Technology #2: Low Level, Laser Therapy (LLLT).
This technology uses a 635nm laser, which creates a hole inside the fat cell. It then causes it to deflate. The body’s natural systemic flows then move the lipids (or fat) away and excrete them.
Is it effective?
Studies have typically shown that LLLT can be used in conjunction with liposuction. However, it’s not a very effective treatment when used by itself. A few studies have shown a reduction of one inch, while others have shown no effect. This makes it a mixed bag.
What are the side effects?
This procedure causes minimal or no side effects.
Technology #3 – Focused Ultrasound
Ultrasound waves are directed directly at the fat layer. This causes sound waves to attack fat cells called adipocytes. They then heat up and eventually die. The ultrasound can only be used to target fat. Because of this, no other tissue is damaged.
Studies have shown that ultrasound technology has the ability to reduce abdominal girth by an average of nearly 4.7cm. These results can be maintained even after 12 week. These results led the US FDA approval of this therapy for fat reduction.
What are the side effects?
The side effects of ultrasound technology are typically less severe than cryolipolysis. Patients who have received high-intensity ultrasound therapy may feel mild, localized tenderness. This should resolve over time.
Technology #4: Radiofrequency
The radiofrequency energy used here is specific and controlled to heat the targeted fat. This also tightens tissue, increases collagen synthesis and improves blood circulation. It offers three benefits: inch loss and cellulite reduction.
Is it effective?
Radiofrequency is a well-studied technology that has been FDA approved almost ten years ago. Numerous studies at large have demonstrated that radiofrequency results in inch loss, cellulite shrinkage, and skin tightening.
What are the side effects?
Some redness and mild bruising may occur, but the side-effects are minor.
Technology #5 is Combination Ultrasound & Radiofrequency
Today, body contouring is becoming a more popular technique that combines technologies in order to maximize the benefits.
Radiofrequency and Ultrasound have been proven to be the best options for body contouring. They increase fat and inches, while improving cellulite.
